Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience. If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get. 4 Stars It’s capable of displaying “1080p” resalotion.
I have a PS3 and i thought i would not be able to display 1080p. but i was curious so i set my PS3 to 1080p in the display options menu thinking the screen would just go black or blank or would say “mode not supported” but the screen when to black for a second and then came back at 1920×1080 i pressed the info button on the remote and it said 1920×1080 @60Hrts, BUT when i set my PS3 to 720p the info says 1280×720p @60Hrts, or when i set my PS3 to 1080i it says 1920×1080i @60Hert the difference the “p” or the “i” when PS3 is set to 1080p it does not say 1920×1080″p” but at 720p it does. so make of that what you will, at 1080p it looks amazingly better then 720p, plus with a 20,000:1 on screen contrast ratio and a 3D sync out this is one hell of amazing display for the money.

5 Stars Still great, 6 months later
I saved up all of last summer to buy an LCD or Plasma TV. I finally decided on this model, and after half a year, I am sure I made the right call. I have it connected to an HDTV cable box, a PS3, and a wii, and everything looks incredible. When I was browsing through Best Buy, I couldn’t even tell a difference between 1080p and 720p in a set of this size, so sticking with the 720p is a great way to save.

My one complaint would be that sometimes it seems like there is a small flash of white, or at least a lighter color, when a scene shifts to something really dark. Maybe that’s because I don’t have everything set up perfectly, but it’s really a minor inconvenience.

Long story short – this is a great looking TV set that is affordable and reliable, even 6 months later. I highly recommend it.

5 Stars Good lookin’ TV for little money!
After shopping around, Best Buy, going-out-of-business Circuit City, H.H. Gregg, this was by far the best price for a 42″ plasma TV I found. With free shipping and no sales tax, it was the best deal. It arrived within a week, carted in and set up by a private firm. (I actually set it up myself because I wanted to save the packing box for when I move). The picture is very good, and setup was easy. We have been enjoying it for about a month now, and I would do the same thing again. The picture is really just as good as the cable will allow, but overall, it is a great set.

5 Stars Awesome Plasma Display! Amazing for the money!
This review is for the Samsung HPT4264 which is this models predecessor. I can only imagine this TV is as good or better, and I could not be happier with mine! I use it to watch TV (HD & regular), play video games (PS2) and watch DVD’s on an upconvert DVD player. The picture is stunning. Better than my Sharp LCD, way better than my Olevia LCD, better than the Sony plasma’s I have seen, and also slightly better than the Panasonic that my friend has. For the money, I don’t think you can do better. I was a Panasonic fan until I saw a friend’s Samsung and was blown away by the colors, so sharp and vivid (and more so than the Panny). My next TV purchase will be a Samsung LCD which a friend has recently aquired and in 1080P and no plasma burn to worry about, it seems like the way to go, especially for video games. Incidently, I broke in my TV in as recommended, and I do play PS2 on it, and it has not displayed any permanent burn-in. But that topic is for an entirely different debate of plasma vs. LCD. I think the only way you can do better than this TV price/performance is to consider a Samsung LCD 1080p, which have come down a lot in price, but will still set you back a few hundo more than this one. If you buy this I don’t think you will be disappointed!

5 Stars Gave back Sony XBR6 to get the Samsung ln46a950
Got the 46″ XBR6 last month…thats a good LCD TV…don’t get me wrong. The price especially on XBR6 has been falling, and is available for under $2k at Amazon. But the problem I fould with the Sony is that the colours seemed to be oversaturated. Faces always seems to red. Had to adjust the colours, but still didn’t seem right.

Also, the XBR6 seems to keep dimming on its own every so often. I think others have also reported this. One this I did like about the Sony is the matted screen…much less reflection.

Decided to return that and spend the extra money to get the top rated LCD available today – Samsung 950. This TV is the absolute BEST. I’m not sure how they can make a better TV…Just watching normal HD programming is absolutely amazing. Blacks can be adjusted, and pictures are so damn clear, and the blacks make the picture pop out. I set it to Standard mode…seemed to be better than the Movie mode.

Speakers is downward facing, but even with the TV on a stand I find on issues with the speakers. The sound just great to me.

Only one small complain I have is the reflective screen…more reflection than the Sony, especially when the TV is off. With the TV on, its not too bad…was not that noticable. I think Samsung is providing a better anti-reflective screen in their next 6000,7000,8000 series unveiled in CES 2009. But can’t wait for that…that would be 6 months out and priced too high.

Glad I switched from XBR6 to A950…definitely worth the extra couple of hundred.

5 Stars Amazing Picture
This TV is the best on the market today, the 55 inch Model holds the same quality but is a lot more money. I got this TV around Dec 25th with a Wall Mount from Amazon, the mount was very easy to install and i had the TV up in a matter of an hour or so. The biggest issue was removing the base Glass Stand which is held in place by 4 Screws. I recommend 2 people for ease of mounting this TV.

The Picture is amazing, Blurays Seem like the people are real and not just a projection or dim image, the colors are bright and vivid. I researched this TV for about 6 months before buying it. No other maker at this time can make a TV that Matches the 9 series, do not listen to anyone in a retail store like bestbuy or others because they will try to sell you on the idea of plasma and honestly you will not notice a difference. Do not believe that just because someone says plasma is better that it is, look for yourself and compare. The Backlite LED technology has closed the gap between Plasma and LCD tvs and they are very equal to one another.

I hightly recommend this TV or the 55 inch Model LN55A950.

I bought this unit just before Christmas. I have yet to purchase a blueray player and am watching DVD through my OPPO 980H DVD player. The picture on this TV is incredible. The colors are bright and vivid without over saturation. Black is as black as the color can possibly get. I wish the price jump between the 46 inch to the 52 inch wasn’t so big, otherwise I would have bought the larger unit. Overall, I am more than pleased and would buy this TV again.

This is an absolutely awesome TV. Being an engineer, I spent weeks reviewing the technical specifications and reviews of many models. My technical specification reviews led me to the Samsung LN46A950. Then of all the LCD or Plasma TV’s in the world today, several reviews rated this TV in the top 3, only slightly behind one Plasma and one LCD model costing over 3X as much. The LED backlighting with a million to 1 contrast ratio provides stunning picture quality. The USB port to connect to your PC or a thumb drive enables displaying your pictures on a vivid large screen in the comfort of your family room. If you’re buying a high end TV it is absolutely worth the extra cost for this model with the LED backlighting.

This item isn’t described well!

There are 2 kinds of DVI cable. One (this one) is a DVD-I. The other is a DVD-D (for digital only). Most computer video output cards use the DVD-D. This DVD-I one WILL NOT WORK for most computer and modern LCD monitors!

IT WOULD REALLY BE NICE IF THESE DEALERS WOULD STATE THIS CLEARLY, even though one does mention it within the fine print. Pretty Tricky… By the time you open the obnoxious bubble wrap, it’s yours..but feel good because these merchants will one day run out through selling them to us dummies, then there will only be the DVI-D, and we will all be okay. The dealers are unloading them without a honest attempt to let you know they will not work, and at the price it’s not worth sending them back. SLEEZY PRACTICE!

This cable is not properly labeled. When I purchased this cable I was unaware that there are two main types of DVI cable, DVI-I (integrated) and DVI-D (digital only). IT IS NOT LABELED ANYWHERE ON THIS PAGE OR ON THE PACKAGING THAT THIS IS A DVI-I CABLE. DVI-I CABLES DO NOT WORK WITH ANY STANDARD LCD MONITOR. This cable is a DVI-I (Dual Link), if you know for a fact that is what you need then it’s not a bad price. But if you ask me don’t buy it anyway because it’s not clearly labeled.

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience. If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get. Minimum size = Viewing distance/3 Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

The picture quality on this set is fantastic! I’d had it for 5 months and would buy two more if I had the money. Deepest blacks of ANY set (LCD) I looked at. My son plays his PS3 (also used for Blu-ray) without any lag time in the games. I’ve never even attempted to adjust the picture. Right out of the box was near perfect. I may get a calibration DVD just to see if I can even get it better. Had a Superbowl party and EVERYONE raved about the set – even people with other HD sets.

5 Stars My experience with the purchase and operation of this item
I was surprised to find the item delivered in 3 days. Undamaged, and, they set it up in my living room to make sure it ran ok. I paid no shipping, and the price was the lowest I had found. The product is unequalled “quality of picture” wise. I have no use for the sound capabilities as I have a surround set up/receiver. I found that out of the box it needed to be adjusted to optimize the picture and that took a bit of fiddling. The controls aren’t hard to figure out, and once it was dialed in, it can take your breath away at full resolution. This TV lays bare the bad and good, so be aware of that…great program material is spectacular, bad material is bad….and there are many in between…so it is revealing. Great set!

So far, so good; I received my new TV a couple of weeks ago and I am very happy with all the features, awesome colors and definition even when used like monitor for my laptop, decent sound, physically nice and clean with no visible buttons at all. Recommended.

The TV showed up in record time. The picture is beautiful and lives up to the claim as one of the best TVs for the price. It is also a wonderful piece of furniture as well as one of the best pieces of electronics I have ever purchased. The SONY Bravia was great, but the SAMSUNG is much better!

5 Stars Loving my LN52A750!
I have had my LN52A750 for about three weeks now and it has really proven to be an amazing set so far. The colors and clarity are crazy good. My friends and family who have been over to watch the NCAA tournament or movies with us are blown away by how good the picture is. There are times that I’m still giddy while sitting on my couch and watching this set.

This is my third Samsung television – my second LCD from them. Each one has been nothing short of great.

Now that I’ve raved about the set, I do need to describe my experience with Amazon’s white glove service delivery. It was good, but not what I expected. I ordered this TV and was contacted by a delivery company in about 3-4 days on a Friday. They were going to be at my house on Monday morning. Normally, that would be good because it’s a quick delivery, but I’d rather schedule the delivery for Tuesday because I’ll already have the day off. I call to reschedule and they are already closed for the weekend. I get home to hear a voice mail that they’ll be at my house on Monday morning. So, now I’m stuck staying home on Monday morning.

The delivery crew called before 8am to confirm they were about 20 minutes away, so communications were good. But, I’d still prefer to have not been there that day. When they arrived, two guys carried the box in, set it down and the second guy walked out to the truck while one stayed to have me sign the papers. Granted, I was not ready for him to hang up my set, but I at least wanted to inspect the set. He explained that the set cannot be turned on due to the cold in the truck overnight and that morning. I understood and agreed with that. What I disagreed with was signing a paper that said I “directed them not to turn on the TV” or something to that effect.

So, I crossed my fingers and signed the papers after looking over the screen.

I’m not sure these guys were ever fully prepared to have stayed to turn on the set and walk me through it. They definitely were more on the delivery-only side of things in my opinion. That being said, free delivery on a set this good and a much lower price than any B&M store make this set well worth the investment.
