Connectivity
Samsung has incorporated advanced HD connectivity and networking capabilities that expand the HDTV’s functionality. A wide variety of multimedia devices can be connected to the set through any one of the four Simplay compliant HDMI 1.3 inputs (including one on the side). Connect HD digital devices like disc players, game consoles, and satellite dish components into the 2 rear connections and use the side-mounted input for cameras, camcorders, and laptops.
HDMI 1.3 is the best performing interface for displaying an HD source on an HDTV. When playing 3D games, like on PS3, you experience faster flow and action and overall play the game at a higher speed. Also, HDMI 1.3 enables Deep Color function that provides an exponentially greater number of color gradations for a subtle screen.
The handy HDMICEC feature lets you control all your CEC-enabled peripherals using just one remote. Once connected, users can easily access device menus and manage and display content through the newly redesigned Wheel Key Remote control and the HDTV’s sophisticated content management interface.

Audio Features
TruSurround is a patented SRS technology that solves the problem of playing 5.1 multichannel content over two speakers. TruSurround delivers a compelling, virtual surround sound experience through any two-speaker playback system, including internal television speakers and headphones. It is fully compatible with all multichannel formats up to 5.1 channels. High-quality virtual surround sound can be experienced with just the two hidden, downward-firing side-mounted 2.2-channel dome speakers built into the TV.
SRS TruSurround XT technology delivers an amazing, simulated 3D effect with clear dialog and powerful bass.
TruSurround XT audio also adds three audio enhancement technologies to produce an amazingly immersive sound experience.
- Dialog Clarity brings movie dialog into Focus during the playback of any surround-encoded material to make speech much clearer and crisper.
- TruBass creates incredible deep rich bass allowing a person to perceive significantly deeper, richer low bass tones that are far beyond the physical low frequency capabilities of the speaker itself.
- The SRS WOW feature widens the soundstage by processing standard two-channel stereo material as well as multi-channel encoded material for a dramatic improvement in the playback of any stereo audio over a two-speaker system.
Stereo broadcast reception is offered for MTS and SAP with 181-channel capacity. A sound leveler keeps audio volume consistent during channel changing.
Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?
 |
With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.
If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.
- Minimum size= Viewing distance/3
- Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

User Ratings and Reviews
5 Stars I LOVE IT!
I bought this about a month and a half ago and I am still excited about it.
The TV is absolutely stunning when watching hi-def on DirecTV. DVD’s and videogames also look amazing! I have found myself re-watching movies and TV shows just because things look so great, and I have found myself stopping on many channels and programs that I am not usually interested in because of the stunning images. Non hi-def channels don’t always look as good, however, and everything on my basic (non HD) Comcast cable looks like total crap. But I only use that for one local cable news channel from time to time so it’s not a big deal to me. Hi-def rules!
The price here on Amazon was better than anywhere else at the time. I first saw it during the Circuit City liquidation sales and came here to read reviews, but I saw that the price here was better than CC’s 30% off. Plus free delivery and setup from here, which CC wouldn’t have done.
I don’t think I would call the delivery “white glove”, but they did their job so I can’t complain. I was skeptical about it at first because when I ordered it, the website gave me a “guaranteed” delivery date. However in the confirmation email, it said “estimated”. Since I had taken that day off from work, I wasn’t very happy so I emailed Amazon and they said that it would arrive on the date originally promised. But then I got an email from the delivery service and they said it would be the following day. I had to call them a few times and contact Amazon again, but in the end it did come on the date Amazon promised.
5 Stars Beautiful Plasma TV, awesome purchase
I couldn’t be happier with this purchase. I’ve had the tv for about one month. I love it. The picture is awesome. The controls are simple. The quality seems great. Highly recommend.
5 Stars Excellent tv for the price. I would even pay more…
This tv is phenomenal. Excellent picture even in a bright room that gets a lot of sunshine. More than enough inputs. I have it next to another tv and the picture quality and colors are just sooo much better on this Samsung. Can’t comment on the sound quality as I run the sound through a separate tuner. Buy it…it’s amazing and extremely cheap for this size and quality.
5 Stars FANTASTIC!!!
The company who delivered was very professional. They carried the (heavy) TV where I wanted it in the house and asked me if I wanted it unpacked. I did so they carefully unpacked it, installed the base and carried away all the packing material. I don’t know if this is standard or not. I was expecting them to drop it onto my porch after signing for it, to be honest.
The instuctions were very easy to read but you really don’t even need them. The TV on screen menu takes you through setup and in just a few minutes, I had an excellent picture just through “over the air” channels. After hooking up cable, I couldn’t believe it. I was in TV heaven!
I went with the 720P version of this HDTV after realizing that Blu-Ray and digital TV have a long way to go before the coolest technologies come out to market. Besides, Consumer Reports rated this model at the top of the 720P models available and it’s a Samsung. I figured this would not be my last HDTV so I decided to save some money now. I wanted something that would provide me with an excellent picture up to 1080i while I waited for the HDTV market to mature.
I cannot see what the draw is for re-purchasing all your old movies again in Blu-Ray format when most people wouldn’t even notice the picture difference between 1080i and 1080P. Instead, I decided to up-convert my huge DVD collection (with my $36.00 up-converting DVD player) and wait for Blu-Rays to be available for a buck from Redbox. By that time, the cost of the players should be down to $50.00 or so.
The picture quality is truly remarkable even at 720P. I have friends with 1080P HDTVs and I believe my picture is clearer and brighter than theirs and quite frankly, any TV I have seen. There is a glare issue. You’ll want to install the TV with that in mind but I don’t think the problem is any worse than it was with the old style CRT TVs. You just notice it a bit more because the screen is so much larger.
I can’t speak for reliability because I have only had it a couple of weeks but if it’s anything like all my other Samsung LCD products, I’ll be very happy. So far, all the research indicates they have worked out all the of the problems associated with the original plasma HDTVs. Samsung has a section about this in the user manual in case you want to play it safe.
By all means, buy this product. You won’t be sorry!
